I posted over the weekend about my !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! shopping for a used Infiniti G37xS coupe when there are no such cars here in Madison, WI. In addition to that idiotic dealer, I’ve been dealing with two others who are only marginally better.

For some reason, these dealers like to have their internet sales people use the emails of their actual sales people, so you get emailed by one person from the name of someone else. The dealer where the guy kept saying “we have 3 blue ones,” the internet sales manager offered me a whopping $150 discount, from the email address of the sales guy who had first called me.

Another dealer has a car I’m looking at that has directional tires on it that are obviously mounted backwards. I figured, hey, negotiating point, and brought this up.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

The internet sales lady said she checked with her sales manager, and since there is 7/32" of tread left on the tires, they would not buy new tires for this car. I went back to her saying that if they’re not buying new tires for it, I would be, and that’ll cost like $900 to $1200 since the car has 19" wheels.

Yet another dealer offered a whole $451 off each of their two cars, and disclosed that the reason the car with less miles costs less is it has an accident on the Carfax. I asked what kind of tires it has on it, pointed out that the wheels look all scratched up, and asked if they’d pay for the wheels to be refinished. He replied that they had put brand new tires on the car, and the wheels are “perfect” and require no reconditioning.

Car dealer definition of “perfect” wheels (these tires don’t look brand new to me either but I suppose they could’ve put fresh ones on after taking these pictures):

I’m looking to trade in my leased BMW 135is before the end of the lease in order to avoid being dinged for $1200 worth of fresh tires at the end of the lease. So...dealers are my only option.

Darn. That is rough. I would start searching non-Infiniti dealers. We have had customers get great deals on cars that were traded in at a BMW or Mercedes Dealer. They don’t want them and want to clear them out.

Update on G37S Coupe tires from my work parking lot: They have now worn through many cords and are showing a nice shiny metal. Not too much longer until they reach air!

Not the worst tire I have seen today though. Passed an Mini Countryman driving 55 on the highway with their hazards on, whose right front tire had strips of whipping around off the side. Didn’t look flat, so maybe it is a run-flat? Too much material not attached for me to believe it would hold air normally.

I read your other post over the weekend. It’s amazing how no one pays attention.

Did you try a search on auto trader? Maybe with a wider net you’d get better results, and a dealer who isn't an imbecile?

I’ve been looking for them wherever I can find them, it just so happens that many of them are certified used, or regular used at Infiniti dealers. There one with the scratched wheels, for example, is non-certified at an Infiniti dealer. That adds another wrinkle for me because if I were to get an extended warranty, I’d do it thru USAA, not the dealer, but to get the good USAA warranty options you need to start with a car with 36k or fewer miles, and this one has 38k miles.

It’s the same as any other trade with them, but I had them appraise the car a few months ago when I was seeing about just getting out of it and driving my Jeep for a while, and they low balled the shit out of me.

In my experience with Chicago car dealers, they’re a special breed within the car dealer kingdom.

Wow. The “perfect” wheel thing is pretty blatant and I can’t say I’ve seen anything that boldly dishonest before.
